Sant'Alberico Mineral Water Spring

ORIGINS

The valley of Cella di Sant’Alberico opens between two slopes: to the north is Poggio l’Abetaia, reaching 1164 meters, while on the south side, to the left of those entering along the white road leading to the Monastery, there are four more imposing mountains.

Poggio Sette Faggi (1260 meters) is the first in line, then the highest, Mount La Costa, reaches 1349 meters, followed by Pian del Brigo at 1334 meters and finally Monticino at 1348 meters.

The Sant’Alberico spring flows at the foot of Mount La Costa, directly in front of the ancient Monastery, from which it takes its name.

The millennia-old history of the Monastery is closely linked to its spring.

The Camaldolese monks had a strong preference for areas rich in water and wood, essential elements of their secular activities, alternating with the spiritual activities of prayer and meditation.

If the monks founded the Monastery exactly where it is located, it is due to the discovery of a very special spring, that of Sant’Alberico.

The water is captured in a small gallery that extends into the rock. Here, the water flows constantly throughout the year: even in periods of drought, its flow is constant, and even in the hottest summers and coldest winters, it always flows at a temperature of 6°C.

HEALTH BENEFITS

The beneficial properties of Sant’Alberico water, already known to the monks (who proudly offered it to their guests and companions), are now certified by numerous laboratory analyses and experimental tests, which we continue to conduct periodically to ensure its quality and characteristics.

AUTHENTIC WELLNESS, AT THE TABLE AND IN THE SPA

Over the centuries, the oligomineral water of Sant’Alberico has been appreciated by over 40 generations of monks and inhabitants of neighboring valleys and villages, who drew from the source for their homes.

Today, the same water flows from the spring to the walls of the Monastery.

You can find it in the garden, in the fountain under the grand entrance staircase: it is our welcome to all Guests who come to visit us, rediscovering in the simple act of drinking from the spring an ancient, simple yet healthy ritual.

The water also flows into the stone basins in the dining rooms of the Sant’Alberico Restaurant, where we draw crystal carafes of water served at the table.

And finally, the same water, appropriately heated, feeds the pools, whirlpools, steam baths, and waterfalls of the Mineral Spa Sant’Alberico, to offer you a truly unique, complete, and healthy wellness experience.
